As per requested, an update...and my friend, you don't have to feel touched. As i just felt like letting you know that i have missed hearing your voice over the phone. Nothing else implied.
Been an tiring day, mainly is the shifting of computers from the old school to the new one. Unfortunately, i had arranged to meet some of my old friends, some of my true friends, on this evening.
The move of the computers are one messed up affair, having 2 different groups to alias with. One group to pack and another group to move. Having an continuous day of rain, caused additional delays on an already short-handed movers. Supposingly, the groups involved are there earlier than the norm. Time is taken to lead them to the respective labs and rooms involved in the move, which explains the morning wasted. After their lunch, well, things took a turn for the worst. After managing to hitch a ride(after which my hod went home) to the new school. i spent the time there, waiting for the movers to make their appearance, whom appeared after 3.30pm. The count for the movers was like 4-5 person with 80+ boxes worth of stuff. They expected the lift to be working. And when it didn't work, i had this realisation that it's definitely going to be a long day.
Sorting out the 80+ boxes is an impossibility. That's when they laid out the boxes to the location that they are going to(As per suggested by francis). Numbers dun tally at that point of time. i realised that after we opened up one location worth of boxes(that's like around 20+) that they are doing the move from point to point, regardless of the location that u explicitly wanted individual things to be shifted to. Inventorising became a challenge, when there's no good way to do an actual tally of the numbers(1/3 of the PC was shifted over by that time). Unless all the boxes are opened up, and checked one by one(printers are using same boxes as PCs and not labeled also).
And to aggravate the situation, the supervisors for the movers want to recycle the boxes(they want it back). Well, after a shift of 20+ PCs up to the 3rd floor. Most of the movers began to show signs of tiredness, that's when i saw the rest of the boxes(40+ of them are due on the 4th storey). At that point of time, it's already going to be 4-5+, with totally no signs of the other trucks. That's when the supervisor for the movers asked whether can he unload the boxes on one fixed place, saying that it's unfair to their guys(no OT and such), even to the extent of leaving the boxes behind(wanting us to employ our own movers). Well, the original agreement was to move all of them within the same day, so i didn't agree to his idea. Having sympathises with him, i agreed to call to ask for approval. As it turns out, my Operations Manager is alright with spending as much time as needed, to get it moved to the places needed. i don't mind doing OT, as long as it solves the problem(gave up on meeting with my friends). In the end, the supervisors of both groups, decided to come back another day to finish up.
The next truck came after 7+, with only half full. And they offloaded everything, with the rest, to a classroom, leaving it for tomorrow. One truck worth of equipment is also left there, making me wonder...Is tomorrow really enough to get everything up to 4th storey?Especially with the manpower that they provides.
